The Graphpak Australia V8 Supercars Championship! RaceCarV8SC

Legendary tin-top touring car series, the Australian V8 Supercar Championship will be coming to The RWS in february. And along with it comes new sponsorship from Graphpak Australia; RaceCar Magazine can exclusively reveal.

'We are proud to announce the Graphpak Australia V8 Supercars Championship will be coming to the RWS in February 2010' were the words of RWS supremo George Simmons earlier this morning. It's the series we've all been waiting for, and it's going to be big, fast and absolutely breathtaking!

2 cars: It's Red vs Blue for the first time here at the RWS, the mighty Holden Commodore will be battling against the brutal Ford Falcon in one of the most epic challenges of Forza Motorsport history. Little seperates the two cars in stats and lap times, it's currently 9 titles to Holden, and 8 to Ford, and with the Ford falcon of Jamie Whincup winning the last 2 V8 Supercars Australia Championships it's going to be up to Holden to slow Ford's momentum and keep the lead!

5 Litres: The Ford and Holden both run on 5,000cc pullrod V8 engines, they are two of the most powerful touring cars ever built, and the challenging courses and tight racing should stretch the cars to their absolute limits! For the Graphpak Australia series the cars will also be running on a standard tuning set-up, meaning that every single driver is going to be on a completely level playing field. It's all about the driver, and the RWS is reknowned for it's exceptional driving standards and skill levels. All i can say is that it's going to be one hell of a championship!

7 Tracks: The battle will be fought over 7 different circuits, ranging from the fast and flowing Maple Valley to the tight and twisty streets of New York. The Championship is made up of 13 races, with 2 races per meeting the first 6 weeks are made up of 12 adrenaline-filled sprint races of both 50 and 75km, with the final round of the championship a single, flat-out endurance race to the flag and the top of the championship table!

3 Winners: Graphpak Australia have kindly donated the RWS 3 fantastic prize packages for the championship worth over $180 each! There will be prizes for:

    • The Graphpak Australia V8 Supercars Drivers Champion
    • The Graphpak Australia Pro-Am Cup Champion
    • The Graphpak Australia Loyal Racer award

Every single race entrant will be entered into the Overall Drivers Championship. This is for any RWS member and entry to the championship will be open from the 7th February 2010 until the championship conclusion on the 4th April 2010.

The Pro-Am Cup is for new members to the RWS and also for regulars who aren't always able to compete with the A final guys, this category replaces the independants championship, and the RWS Staff are hoping that this will help newer or slower members get together in teams and integrate with the RWS community more easily.

The Loyal Racer Award will be given out to a random driver who scores points in at least 10 of the 13 rounds. This award should keep people coming back to the championship keeping grid sizes up, but also will reward the drivers who stick it out to the end, especially if they are not in the fight for the championship.

1 Champion: Who will become the champion of these mighty beasts, the Graphpak Australia V8 Supercars championship will not be won easily, and both the testing handling of the vehicles and the feirce opposition should make it an absolute spectacle to both watch and compete in. When February 21st rolls around, i don't think there will be a pebble on the tarmac which isn't shaking in fear of what the RWS is about to unleash.

RaceCar Magazine will also be back to full-time coverage of the Graphpak Australia V8 Supercars Championship, so check back here after each week's race to view a full report of the thunder from down under!

The Graphpak Australia V8 Supercars Championship! 4359179698_e96223b97a_o

With less than 7 days to go until the first round of the Graphpak Australia V8 Supercar Championship the atmosphere in the RWS paddock has never been so excited as it is now, and with the way the build-up to the championship has been going there is no reason why it shouldn't be! Report by Eddie Exhaust.

The Sign-ups for Rounds 1&2 of the Graphpak Australia V8 Supercars championship are now officially open, and this marks the championship becoming the RWS' 6th full season of racing.

The RWS Previous championship, the RWS GT1 Series was although potentially flawed and with certainly a shaky start a success at the end of the day. Close racing and alot of fun was enjoyed last season, we saw top drivers caught out and RWS Stalwarts tear up the form-book, but not only this, we also saw a brand new RWS champion in his rookie season. EMW EnZo truly dominated the season and is shaping up to be the favourite for the Aussie V8's too. EnZo had already got one of the best track-records of RWS drivers ever, and his success doesn't just stop here, he's got and had many #1 times over the years driving for teams like EMW and R2P who have both at one stage led the Forza Motorsport Teams Scoreboards.

But the rest of the world is up against him, and with only 2 perfectly matched cars to choose from, the standard set-up that has been introduced and also a calendar almost completely populated with new tracks this could well drag EnZo back down off his pedestal and produce one absolutely fantastic championship.

RaceCar Magazine has gone through the entered drivers list to see if we can hunt down the main challengers for the title this season.

    DRIVERS:
    -------------------------------------------------------------
EMW EnZo: dominated his first RWS season and could have scored even more points if technical errors hadn't put him out on two occasions, the clear favourite for S6, the question isn't "how fast is EnZo", but "is it possible to catch him?"

RpM BreMbo has the potential to be a very strong force this season, and we all know the skill is there after the Fantastic Season 4 effort that put him fighting back in the last 4 races, but bad luck losing him the chance of a championship victory. But the 3rd place overall was enough to cement him in the RWS 'one to watch' book. Unfortunately for BreMbo though his pace will fluctuate, Season 3 Curitiba was a classic example of this vulnerability, fast in the practise but a botched qualification cost him dearly and the pace just wasn't there in the race.

gregtwo was the dominating Season 3 champion. The flying scot rarely finished off the podium in a masterful season driving for Volvo, but the speed dwindled away in a heavy C30R in Season 4. Perhaps the sabattical for Season 5 will bring back the Former Champion's pace? He's fast, but the speed is yet to transfer over to Forza Motorsport.

RpM Mad Monk had a brilliant start with the RWS and in fact won the first ever RWS race. But the Veteran has recently dropped off the pace. The S1, S2 runner up and triple teams champion hasn't won an RWS A Final since Pau in S3, but flashes of speed have been shown like a Silverstone pole in S4 and a 3rd place at Silverstone GP in S5. Perhaps this time at Silverstone National he could break the duck?

Shota AydindriL was the only man to catch EnZo last season in a monumental battle at Catalunya. Unfortunately though the pressure got to him and a mistake on the final corner cost him the victory. Many respect AydindriL as a true racer, and with great speed and racecraft can he be the one to bring the fight to EnZo again?

RoflMaiWafflez is often an A finalist when he gets the testing mileage down, but prone to accidents and lap 1 pile-ups we could well see this driver getting mixed up where he shouldn't be. When not in an accident his speed is there, especially on street tracks and with Sunset Peninsula and New York in the calendar we could see some magic come to play from this guy.

    Rookies:
    -------------------------------------------------------------
EMW Checkpoint is a rookie in terms of RWS experience, he will be entering his first RWS race at Sedona, but it only takes a look on Forzastats to see that experience will not be a problem for this seasoned hotlapper. Ranked #19th overall in the Circuit leaderboards this guy will surely be a joker in the pack.

TGxBurnedAlive has showed some very good testing pace and is expected to be fighting for A final grid slots, we could well see this guy battling for a podium finish too in his rookie season, keep your eye on him!

Timomies showed good pace in the Speed Chills Le Mans 2.4 Hour last year, and only entered the finale of S5 at Laguna Seca in a very difficult Chevrolet C6R. In the right car we could see him punching above his weight, he should be looking for A final qualifications, and definitely for the Pro-Am cup too.

DJP2816 also showed some good testing speed, he's keeping a low profile at the moment in the build-up to the series, but i think we could see him fighting for the Pro-am cup.

Aallustriel and Aspade01 have both signed for the Jesus Racing squad, only the team knows the speed of these two so we can't really look into it much, they could be slow, but they could be absolutley rapid. Let's find out!

    Teams:
    -------------------------------------------------------------
Mush hsuM Racing are the ever popular RWS Veterans headed by RoflMaiWafflez. This fairly average team has seen some good and bad results over the past but have never really made their mark on the championship. With Speed Chills Le Mans 2.4 GT2 Winner TER LiveNkickin on board for this season and Jonny and Phil likely to do enough races this could well be their time to shine.

Toll HSV Dealer Racing have a fantastic line-up for this season, IRidleyI showed some great speed in the GT1's last season along with Shota AdyndriL who could well be a championship challenger and relatively unknown speed-wise SkySaviour12245. It could well be a good season for these boys, and as the Manufacturer Holden team i'm sure they will recieve enough support financially to be able to bring the fight to the Fords.

Jesus Racing have gone for an almost all Rookie line-up this season, and with a combined RWS Race tally of 1 they are completely unpredictable, i'm going to say they will be at the top of the B finals, and the occasional A final will come. Points wise i reckon 3rd team overall, which is no bad thing for what is essentially a Novice team.

Team Vodafone have past RWS Champion gregtwo on their side, along with S5 A final winner Ray J P 123 and S1+2 Runner up RpM Mad Monk they probably have the strongest line-up of all of the teams on paper. But as you know sometimes paper won't translate into 3D and we could well see these boys clinging on to the back of the A final. Let's hope Gregtwo and Monk return to their S3 form, and Ray J P keeps up his current speed, if they can all up their game by 1 level then these guys will be favourites for the teams championship.

Team Rockstar will be the guys to stop the Vodafone charge though. EMW SeriouZ and Morne in Glory will be backing up EnZo's title charge with solid points all of the way through, it's probably going to be up to these two to keep finishing infront of their rival's second driver for Rockstar to secure the championship.

It'll be interesting to come back at the end of the season and check my predictions, but no matter how the championships turn out i'm sure it's going to be a fantastic championship and the finale will be epic. Here's to a great season and lots of fantastic racing!

    See you at Sedona!
